
UKRAINE : INFORMATION FOR TRAVELLERS
All persons, who wish to enter Ukraine, are required to have a Ukrainian visa, valid for the period of their intended stay in Ukraine, inserted into their passports or travel documents. Please note that all Ukrainian visas serve as both an entry and exit visa.
No invitation letters are necessary for citizens of the US, Canada, Japan, Switzerland, Slovakia, and Turkey, or citizens of the countries of the European Union for obtaining official, business, private, cultural, or sports visas. No visas are required for citizens of Romania, Mongolia, Serbia and Montenegro, and the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (except Turkmenistan).
Registration in Ukraine is not required if the term of applicants' stay in Ukraine does not exceed 3 months.
The type of visa to be issued is based upon the purpose of the person’s entry into Ukraine. The various types of visas include service, business, student, private, transit and immigration. Ukrainian visas may be applied for in most instances at any Ukrainian consular post, regardless of whether it is located in the country of the applicant’s citizenship or place of residence
To obtain a visa an aplicant must submit :
an original passport or travel document, which must be valid for at least one month after the expiration date of the requested visa, and which must contain a blank visa page;
a visa application form, which is available at any Ukrainian consular post or can be printed from the Web site of any Ukrainian consular post;
one color full front view passport size photograph on a white background, taken within six months of the date of application and attached in the designated space of the visa application form;
the consular fee for processing the visa.
Visa duration :
SINGLE or DOUBLE-ENTRY VISA
For citizens of U.S., Canada, Japan, Switzerland, Slovakia, and Turkey and citizens of the European Union countries - up to 6 months.
For other nationalities and stateless persons - up to 3 months.
MULTIPLE ENTRY VISA
For US citizens - up to 5 years (the duration of visa can vary from 1 to 5 years).
For non-US citizens and stateless persons - up to 1 year.
Multiple entry visas can be issued, pending a decision from the Consul, within 9 business days only.
TRANSIT VISA - up to 5 days (a period of time sufficient enough to cross Ukraine by train, ship, automobile or other means of transportation).
The duration of a P-2 type visa can vary from 1 to 5 years (decision is made by the Consul).
Only a multiple entry visa entitles the holder to unlimited entries during its period of validity. Persons with a single or double entry visa may enter Ukraine one or accordingly two times during the period of validity of their respective visas.
Upon arrival in Ukraine, travellers must declare :
Any prohibited items, such as explosives and weapons (except gas and hunting weapons officially approved by Ukrainian authorities), drugs, artwork, antiques, and luggage sent separately.
More than $1,000 and 85 hryvnyas in cash.
Personal jewelry with value exceeding $240.
More than 1 liter of alcoholic beverages.
More than 200 grams of tobacco products.
According to the decree, foreigners who are temporarily staying in the country should have insurance policies that guarantee the payment for any medical aid provided to them. These insurance policies can be purchased from the State JSC for Providing the Foreign Citizens with Emergency Aid and other places where visas are processed or when crossing the state border.
