THE CAUCASUS REGION : ARMENIA, AZERBAIJAN & GEORGIA

The Caucasus region is located between the Caspian and Black seas. It is separated from Russia by the Caucasus Mountains. The territory of the Caucasus region is split between three countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. Only Armenia and Georgia can really be characterized as "Caucasian" in the cultural sense. Azerbaijan, a predominantly Muslim nation, whose inhabitants speak a language (Azeri) related to Farsi (spoken in Iran), is better classified as a Central Asia nation. Georgia is predominantly Orthodox Christian (close to Greek Orthodox), with a long history and a distinct culture.
