History of Russian Toronto
History and background
The Russian Toronto website was founded in 1995. It was first created under the name "Russians in Toronto". In March 1997, the website was renamed to Russian Toronto and became as it is now.
When the site was created the idea behind it was to provide reliable information about the aspects of living in Canada and tips about adaptation in Canada. In other words, the site was designed for those who are planning to immigrate to Canada and for those who've already arrived here.
Who designed and maintains RT?
Russian Toronto was designed and is still maintained by the company DEST GROUP LTD. Prior to the creation of RT, DEST GROUP has been publishing a magazine for newly arrived immigrants, called Deals Around Wheels (May 1995), which was written in English. It was distributed amongst many different cultural communities of Toronto, and also by the immigration services of Pearson Airport (I.R.I.S.). Due to the fact that DEST GROUP LTD has accumulated a large amount of useful information, which could benefit many recent immigrants, the company decided to create a place where all this information could be stored and accessed easily by anyone who has the Internet. Since DEST GROUP has already been working on the net, producing customized websites, they created what is now known the "Russian Toronto" website.
